Fort Washita: Located 15 miles northwest of Durant on State 199 near Cumberland Cove Resort, was built by the white man to protect the civilized Chickasaws and Choctaws from the Plains Indians. Chickasaw Council House: Located on the courthouse grounds in Tishomingo, was the tribe's first capitol building in Indian Territory. This structure has been preserved to interpret the past of the Chickasaws and their successful attempts to carve a new home out of the wilderness. Denison Dam Powerhouse: A must stop for Texoma Visitors. Guided tours feature many exhibits of fossils found during construction of the dam. Eisenhower Birthplace: Popular attraction in Denison open 7 days. Restored 1890 birthplace of the late 5 star General and 2 term President.
